Bringers 'R'Us - Beginnings

Joy Bringers was set up in 2003 to support people who feel socially isolated and excluded in the community and empower them to become active and useful members of society. The founder of Joybringers is Mary Mwatsama and she holds a B.A 1 st Class Honours degree in Social Psychology, an MA in Educational Psychology and a Diploma in Counselling. Mary and her friends begun by visiting neighbours and found people who were hurting from broken relationships, divorce, long-term illness, unemployment, old age, poverty, and other types of distressing situations. These people often stayed indoors not wanting to go anywhere unless it was extremely necessary. Mary and her friends offered hope and practical support, raising their self-esteem and self- confidence. As a result attitudes changed, and people were willing to see things from a different perspective. They were helped discover and appreciate their strengths and signposted to other services hat improved the quality of their lives.

Together with her husband, Clement Mwatsama and a team of volunteers Joy Bringers set up a drop in centre for the community, activities for young people inluding, a debate, chess and football club, a girls club and a mentoring and counselling service for the whole family ....MORE
